Downriver Volunteer Militia
We are training with the SMVM for Field Training Exercises.
FTX's are the first weekend of the month (unless its a holiday)
Camping is almost always available.
Most FTX's are held at Island Lake Recreation Area. During the summer they will be held at the Organizational Campgrounds. During the winter they will be held at the Rustic Cabins. A small donation is asked for the rental of these areas, even if not camping. This gives us access to these areas for training. Island Lake has a very nice gun range. Take advantage of the nice facilities while out there. $7 gives you all day access to the range. They have 25 yd, 50 yd and 100 yd ranges
Once every 3 months we will be going up north to private property for weapons training. These FTX's are going to be 3 day events due to the long drive. Friday evening to Sunday noon. In order to be invited to the private properties, you will need to have come to a Island Lake FTX first.
This being said, we are now more than ever looking for some property to train on. 40 or more acres would be ideal. Although we could utilize anything even as small as 5-10 acres. Please if anyone has a lead contact me.
We will soon be meeting in the Downriver area monthly. Meetings are planned for the 3rd Saturday of the month @ 0900 hrs. As many people interested in joining us are off shift workers.
Also in the plans are non-weapons training sessions. They will be held in the downriver area as well. These classes will focus on survival, first aid, land navigation and others.
No illegal Drugs, Weapons or Alcohol will be tolerated at any MIDVM Event EVER!

Also Remember there will likely be people there Friday night and sunday morning so if you cant make it saturday for training come sunday for range time. Please contact us first before to verify that someone will be out there.
If you have a place (i.e. restaurant or other) that we can meet at, please let me know. On the same note, if you have property (20+ acres) that we can train on, please contact me also. Property can be within 1-2 hours drive from the area. We prefer somewhere we can train and shoot without disturbing too many neighbors.
