Ceremony Detail preparing for a 21 gun salute to Frank Stasa

We are dedicated to preparing ourselves and training others for the unfortunate events that may come.  We feel the best way to go through an emergency is to be prepared.

Currently we are training with the very skilled Southeastern Michigan Volunteer Militia.

Our goal at DVM is to provide a contact, training and guidance in Michigan's Downriver Area.  If you are interested in training, or just want to find out more about who we are and what we do go to our contact page and drop us a line.  Or better yet come out and see for yourself at one of our meetings or training sessions.

As we are still getting organized, rather than do a bunch of copy and paste, I suggest you check out the SMVM site for their information.  We will be modeling our unit after theirs.  So why join the DVM?  Well, for one thing, we are probably closer in case of an emergency.  If cell and phone communications go down, SMVM Leaders are too far away for local radio contact.  I don't want to have to try and walk to Farmington and back for a briefing, do you?  So I consider us a Squad or Platoon of the SMVM.

The Rifleman Requirements will be the same.  The only thing we may add to our unit would be a marine (water) unit.  If this interests you let me know.

The following will be adhered to by the MIDVM:

Recently Approved SMVM Policies:

1. If you cannot legally own a firearm, then you will not be allowed to handle one at any SMVM training, event, meeting, or function. (This is to prevent any legal action toward The SMVM, Camp Stasa, or anyone else involved, should someone claim that felons were allowed to handle firearms. It is a precautionary measure.)

2. Persons are advised to NOT stay alone overnight at Camp Stasa. (This is an advisory statement only.)

3. "Burp," "bump", or other rapid fire will NOT be allowed at ranges greater than 10 yards from the backstop. (Uncontrolled, unaimed fire presents a potential hazard, is a waste of ammunition, and does not increase tactical effectiveness.)

4. If you are shooting on any other day that is NOT the officially designated SMVM training date(s), then you are on your own, and not acting or participating in any official SMVM capacity. (This is directed primarily at persons who show up and shoot on random days, whose discipline and marksmanship are beyond our control.)

These are mainly pre-emptive, "cover-our-tails" policies, and they will be enforced, in the interest of The SMVM, Camp Stasa, and everyone else involved.
